Unfortunately under RCVS rules he cannot provide advice over the phone without having seen your pet, so you will need to be referred by your own veterinary surgeon. Mark can come to your local practice to examine your pet, so you don&#8217;t have to travel to a referral centre.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8\"><span class=\"wixGuard\">\u200b<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"font_8\">Preparation<\/h3>\n<p class=\"font_8\">Patients should come in for the appointment on an empty stomach (from 6pm the night before) just in case any sedation is required e.g. for X rays. Water should not be restricted.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8\">Typically, you will have a detailed consultation with us and then a full heart scan will be performed. Please be aware that echocardiography requires good contact between the ultrasound probe and the skin via a coupling gel. To obtain the best images, this usually involves clipping some hair from the chest wall. Your pet may also need to have blood samples, blood pressure measurement, an ECG or X-rays as part of their work-up. Once all the tests have been completed, you will be able to pick your pet up later in the day and we will go through your pet&#8217;s long term needs and any follow-up required. After that, ongoing care and treatment will be managed by your own vet, but Mark will always be available to discuss any ongoing problems, changes to medications and to perform repeat heart scans and investigations as required.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8\">Unfortunately, Mark does not offer heart screening prior to breeding at this time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8\"><span class=\"wixGuard\">\u200b<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"font_8\">Abdominal Ultrasound Referrals<\/h3>\n<p class=\"font_8\">Patients should come in on an empty stomach (from 6pm the night before) as sedation is normally given for a full abdominal ultrasound. There should be sufficient room and manpower available for the animal to be restrained by one or two assistants while Mark is scanning to ensure the day runs smoothly. Colour Flow Doppler Echocardiography, ECG, Holter monitoring and blood pressure measurement may be carried out for Cardiology Referrals.
